I think it's safe to say that Spider-Man has been through some pretty weird stuff in his time, right? I mean, that's a fifty-year saga that started with a radioactive spider-bite that gave him limited psychic powers and super-strength that he immediately used to try to find fame as a professional wrestler, and the fine folks over at Marvel Comics have somehow managed to top that for weirdness time and time again. Heck, right now, Spider-Man comics are in the midst of a supervillainous Freaky Friday story that has been running for over a year. That should tell you something. But for my money, the absolute craziest and most hilarious Spider-Man story in years isn't the one you'll find in the comic shops on Wednesday.

The Amazing Spider-Man was a daily comic strip featuring the character Spider-Man which was syndicated for more than 40 years. While the strip used many of the same characters as the Spider-Man comic book, the storylines were nearly all originals and did not share the same continuity. A consistently popular strip, it was published from to A Spider-Man comic strip was first proposed in The strip slowly grew in circulation. Initially the creative team was again Lee and Romita. Though renowned for his use of the Marvel method , Lee wrote full scripts for the comic strip.

Stan Lee had a few runs at comic strips earlier in his career. Later in The Fifties and stretching into the early Sixties he was trying his hand at Mrs. Stan preferred The Funnies over Adventure Strips. About that time Stan seems to get sidetracked from comic strips with editing and writing and co-creating the Marvel Comics Universe. Lee stayed deeply involved with that distraction for a dozen or so years before turning day-to-day duties over to Roy Thomas.
After the daily strip, which still bears Stan Lee's name. King Features released an official statement that suggests that the strip could continue in some format, possibly with a focus on the wider Marvel Universe.
